The only James Bond story for which Albert Broccoli never obtained the rights is Casino Royale.
Those are held by Charles Feldman, who, following the success of, anddecided that he wanted to make his own Bond film.
After commissioning a script, he began casting.
When attempts to "borrow" Sean Connery from Broccoli came to naught, Feldman decided on casino royale 1967 review radical change in tone.
Instead of making Casino Royale a "straight" movie, he chose to attempt a parody.
The opening is promising.
We are introduced to the "real" Sir James Bond David Nivena retired "pure spy" who is horrified by the outrageous activities of the agent currently assigned his name and number.
M John Huston appeals for Bond's return to active duty.
Spies all over the final, casino life boxden opinion are being killed, and the governments of the Soviet Union, France, the United States, and England have temporarily set aside their differences to combat SMERSH, the criminal organization suspected of the murders.
At first, Bond refuses, but, after M uk casino age restriction killed, he changes his mind and agrees to come back.
For twenty minutes, Casino Royale is clever, witty, and exacting in its satire.
The conventions so popular in the official Bond movies -- the gadgets, the women, and the cars -- are skewered with relish.
Bond is a reserved twit with a stutter who looks and acts nothing like the dashing Connery version, and his contempt for the "tricks of the trade" is plain.
Unfortunately, after the introductory sequences, Casino Royale begins a downhill slide.
It gets progressively sillier and more incoherent until it's impossible to keep any of the plot elements straight.
Worse, with only occasional exceptions, the humor ceases to be funny, and the whole production degenerates into absurdity.
By the ending, just about every agent has been renamed James Bond, including Peter Sellers, Charles Cooper, Daliah Lavi, and a chimpanzee.
There are other Bonds as well: the daughter of Sir James and Mata Hari, Mata Bond Joanna Pettetand Sir James' nephew, Jimmy Bond Woody Allen.
Five directors helmed this production, and it shows.
Casino Royale is poorly-paced and the transitions are largely ineffectual.
Each segment has a different main character, so the overall effect is like cobbling together five short episodes, then devising a ludicrous ending to resolve them all.
It doesn't work, and the viewer is left scratching his or her head, wondering what's going on.
Three "legitimate" Bond actors crossed between the official series and Casino Royale.
The most notable is Ursula Andress, the femme fatale of this film, who played Honey Ryder in Casino royale 1967 review />Vladek Sheybal, who has a small role here, was SPECTRE agent Kronsteen in From Russia With Love.
And Angela Scoular, Casino Royale's Buttercup, appeared in as one of Blofeld's allergy girls.
By far the best element of Casino Royale casino royale 1967 review Burt Bacharach's score.
Light and upbeat, it's the perfect musical companion for a spy spoof.
Neither John Barry nor the "James Bond Theme" is missed although a Barry tune can be briefly heard -- Bacharach uses the title track from Born Free during a scene with some lions.
Despite an impressive cast that includes such notables as Niven, Sellers, Allen, Orson Welles, Jean-Paul Belmondo, and Jacqueline Bisset, Casino Royale is too ridiculous and muddled to be of more than passing interest to real Bond enthusiasts.
The casino royale 1967 review good aspects of this farce are vastly outweighed by the bad.
Besides, given how close some of the Bond movies have come to self-parody, it's questionable whether an outright satire is warranted.

In order to trick SMERSH, James thinks up the ultimate plan - that every agent will be named 'James Bond'.
One of the Bonds, whose real name is Casino royale 1967 review Tremble is sent to take on Le Chiffre in a game of baccarat, but all the Bonds get more than they can handle.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzz Where are the laughs?
Least it's a reasonably diverting piece of 60s kitsch but disappointing to say the least.
Feldman's memorable 'adaptation' of Casino Royale, because it's about as faithful to the book as James Bond himself is to any girl he meets!
To say casino royale 1967 review movie is a curio is a titanic understatement, because frankly it's one of the most baffling and absurd things ever committed to celluloid; an episodic, scattershot attempt at satire that frequently misses every target it aims for, often wasting a truly top-drawer cast of screen legends, comedians and well known character actors from both sides of the pond.
Don't watch Casino Royale if you want to see a comedy film.
Don't watch Casino Royale if you want to see a good film.
I have a very low threshold of death.
My doctor says I can't have bullets enter my body at any time.
I'm not sorry that I really enjoy this movie.
Yes, it's extremely quirky, stupid a lot of the time, and in general probably the absolute cheesiest movie I've ever seen.
But I have so much fun with it every time I watch it.
The fact that John Huston decided to take what little he had left of the Casino Royale copyright the character names and the film title and make an all-out all-nonsense comedy is admirable.
So this is the worst Bond film.
Can't say I'm surprised.
You're David fucking Niven!
This thing barely cares about narrative coherency anyway, so why is it so damn long?
An 80 minute highlight reel would have been a delirious blast of comic carnage, this is just a slog.
But wow, the stuff worth saving in here casino royale 1967 review terrific- the crazy sets, the slapdash pacing of it's best scenes, Bacharach's fabulous, swingin' score.
An incoherent dud of a picture whose run time seems interminable and the plot would take a nobel prize winner to deduce.
This is self-indulgent pageantry of the lowest order.
Casino Royale isn't just a bad film, it's an incompetently made one too.
Just awful in every respect.
This movie has ten writers and six GOD-DAMB directors.
I don't know to say about this film.
For starters, their are six directors.
Casino Royale tries to class the character of James Bond up with David Niven taking over the main role of James Bond.
I have no idea why, but I did.
I actually enjoyed it.
It's a total fucking mess when it comes to it's plot, but fuck me all that 60's weirdness is just so casino royale 1967 review to me.
Plus the music makes it a bit more watchable.
I also think that Casino Royale may have been too much for one James Bond.
I definitely have not.
Pretty entertaining, but also.

The problem with "Casino Royale" isn't just that it's not in the least coherent, but that it's just not funny. Surprisingly, the first ten minutes of exposition sets up a good situation. The real Sir James Bond (David Niven) is enjoying his retirement from the Secret Service when agents all over the world start dying.

Bond is taken in by Agent Mimi alias Lady Fiona McTarry who immediately falls in love with him.
The current agent using the Bond name, Cooper, has his hands full, despite his assistance by beautiful secretary, Moneypenny.
Bond, hoping to clear his name from its current low repute, hires Evelyn Tremble to meet Le Chiffre at the gambling tables at Casino Royale.
Ranging from surreal black comedy to pure slapstick, the movie boasts remarkably little in the way of coherent plotting, a fault that was compensated for by the numerous plots and counterplots hatched before and during its turbulent shooting.
The rights of the first novel were originally purchased to produce a live television play starring Barry Nelson as CIA agent Jimmy Bond, Michael Pate as British MI6 agent Felix Leiter, and Peter Lorre as the villainous Le Chiffre.
Although a great deal of fun to watch today, it was always considered below-average, both as a James Bond adventure and as a live television play.
Lines are flubbed, and both the sound and staged effects are poor at the best of times in the opening scene for instance, gunshots and their squibs are way out of sync.
Since Charles Feldman was unable to use Sean Connery in his version, he decided the only possible solution was to send-up the James Bond persona, making Casino Royale a kind of farcical satire with only a very marginal connection to the original novel.
They decide to persuade Sir James Bond out of retirement by blowing up his country house.
Unbeknownst to Bond, the McTarrys have been replaced by SMERSH agents andoh, forget it!
Suffice to say that, by the climax of this incomprehensible farrago, almost everyone has a new lucky casino at being James Bond, and ends with Woody Allen as the would-be master of this web page world, who swallows a casino royale 1967 review atom bomb and blows himself and casino royale 1967 review else to bits.
Joseph McGrath was originally hired as sole director, a risky choice for a multi-million dollar production as it was his first feature.
Evelyn Tremble Peter Sellers.
But Sellers, after a humiliating encounter with the gargantuan American actor-director, became obsessed with the notion that he was going to be upstaged.
palace casino from the hostile vibrations of his charismatic article source />All of which was perfectly feasible since they would be sitting opposite each other across the baccarat table, except for two problems.
Firstly, there was no establishing shot of the two players in the same room.
This was fixed in post-production with a couple of seconds of obvious superimposing.
Secondly, actors tend to benefit greatly from a form of mutual feedback, even if their personal relations are less than amicable.
His resulting performance in Casino Royale is significantly one of the most featureless casino royale 1967 review lackluster of his entire career.
Sellers decided someone should be blamed and did not indulge in an excess of soul-searching.
McGrath had to go and so he departed, along with a press release stating that such an inexperienced filmmaker was never been intended to complete the movie, segments of which would now be allotted to different well-known directors.
There was one by Ben Hecht, there was one by Terry Southern, one by Dory Schary, and so on.
So we virtually started shooting without a script.
We had standing sets in each studio.
Which set are we on then?
Well, write her in!
He started off by conning Sellers into doing it by saying Niven was going casino royale 1967 review do it, then he called Niven and said Sellers is going to do it and so then he got Casino royale 1967 review />He got Bill Holden because he used to be his agent at one time, but I remember we had a terrible time getting Jean-Paul Belmondo.
It was all a nightmare but it eventually made money a lot of money.
